CHIPPING Sodbury battled hard against West of England Premier League Gloucester division leaders Dumbleton before succumbing to a 61-run away reverse.

The home side totalled 293-7 after winning the toss, opener Scott Tremain finishing unbeaten on 133 as Nick Wake claimed three wickets while there was also a return of 2-44 from Jamie Rendell.

In reply, Sodbury then lost wickets at regular intervals, Craig Scully top scoring on 58 while Jamie Rendell hit 48.

Sodbury 2nds emerged 62-run home victors over Marlborough. Chris Young (92) and Will Christofi (49) shared a second wicket stand of 124 in a total of 256-7.

And fine work with the ball from Lee Walters (5-43), Tom Clay (2-21) and Dan Morgan (2-38, both from nine) then wrapped up the victory.

Sodbury 3rds, meanwhile, went down by five wickets away to Bristol Civil Service in Division Three of the Bristol & District League.

The visitors compiled a challenge of 222-9 but Civil Service eased in with four overs to spare.

There was better luck for Sodbury 4ths, Dave Marshall thumping an unbeaten 103 to help his side reach 186-9 against Bristol West Indians in Division Nine, setting up a nine-run victory.

Sodbury 5ths, though, were outgunned by 137 runs at home to a strong Civil Service 2nds outfit.

THE Sodbury Slayers got off the mark in the ECB’s new under-19 T20 with an excellent seven-wicket home win against Keynsham.

The visitors, who lost the toss, reached 150-7 as Callum Davidge (2-25), Richard Lane (1-23), Josh Cox (1-28) and Jack Thacker (0-29) all made their mark with the ball.

Opener Adam Febry then took charge with the bat, stroking an unbeaten 53 before retiring under competition rules.

But skipper Tom Makepeace (25) and Ali Scott (24 not) continued the good work to bring up the win with 13 balls to spare.

Sodbury, who lost their first outing to Bristol West Indians, continue their bid to qualify for the knock out stages with a trip to Bedminster on Friday.
