DURSLEY Running Club new member Neil Hodgson competed in the Race the Train event in Tywyn mid Wales on Saturday which was a 14 mile "undulating" off road and multi terrain trail run.

The steam train takes approximately 1 hour 48 minutes to undertake its journey to Abergynolwyn and back to Tywyn.

He finished this course in 97th position out of a field of 950 in a time of 01:38:40 in a high quality field. The train finished 10 minutes in arrears.

The winner finished in 01:19.00. Hodgson followed this up with the 10K Race4Men in Gloucester the next day completing the slightly less challenging 10K course around Plock Court in just over 43 minutes.

The Saturday also saw a number of other Dursley Athletes in action. In Cornwall Andrew Truswell was ran the Plague RAT Ultra (100 km). He finished in 16:02:15, 33rd of 82 finishers. Alice Smith completed the Adrenalin Rush Event in Bristol.

At the Gloucester Kingsway Park Run Mark Brasier led the team home finishing 15th overall in 20:22, (3rd VM40-44). Julie Froggatt was 70th in 26:27:00, (2nd VW50-54), Jo Shean PB’d finishing 95th in 29:54 (3rd VW40-44). Megan Warren travelled to Lincolnshire completing the Conkers Park run in 30:40, 208th of 406 runners (6th SW25-29).

At the beginning of the month Neil Truelove guided Louise Simpson round in 35:23 some 10 mins off her PB. Partly because she had cycled 170 miles coast-to-coast over the previous 4 days on the back of a tandem from Morecombe to Bridlington to raise money for Goalball UK, and partly because of the narrow path which meant that the pair had to keep stepping out of the way of faster runners.

The previous Tuesday had seen 47 runners competing in the third race in the Dursley Running Club’s Handicap Series. Cara Zoglowek started with Damian Lai next off on 4 minutes. Just over 42 minutes later Lai was the first to turn the corner onto the finishing straight having put in a big effort to knock around 5 minutes of his previous best, Carolyn Thraves crossed the line second and Rachael Goatman third. It was a good night for some of the more experienced runners who worked hard to get themselves into the top of the results sheet.

Julia Newman continued to accumulate a low score with 12th place, only to be outdone on points so far by Holly Gardner, fastest woman on the night and who has accrued 24 points to Julia’s 32. In the men’s section Darren Richards, Richard Pitts and Mark Western occupy the top three spots having all run three races.
