Newent Town 4 Sharpness 1

ON a warm afternoon in the Forest of Dean a mad eight second half minutes spoilt  the afternoon for Sharpness.

The Sharks started well and could well off been two up within 15 minutes but for some great goalkeeping and poor finishing.

The chances kept presenting themselves but time and time again Sharpness failed to convert. It was on the 35 minute mark that they were made to pay for not taking their numerous chances.

After giving up possession on the half way line the Newent midfielder then ran 10 meters down the left cut in and slotted calmly into Ryan Neale’s net from just outside the box. Sharpness went into the break one nil down.

The first 10 minutes of the second half sealed the game for Newent when the same player who scored the first scored goal made it a brace with an outstanding strike from 35 yards out which gave Neale no chance in goal.

Sharpness seemed stunned by the strike and Newent went wild throwing everything into attack and some sloppy defending meant that within 10 minutes Sharpness were 4 nil down.

This seemed to finally awaken the very strong Sharpness side into action and some  relentless pressure still could not produce a goal.

The introduction of Scott Bennett saw him draw a penalty with his first touch and Matt Gardner  converted. A disappointing afternoon for the Sharks who created 15 clear chances but failed to convert.

Orsborn was heard to say that on another day we could of been and should of been 6 up at half time.

Sharpness will be looking to bounce back in the next league fixture on Saturday against Berkeley at home.
