Wotton Rovers 0
Thornbury Town U16 1

THORNBURY U16’s kicked off the 2015-16 season with their first pre-season away game against local rivals Wotton Rovers.
The game was played in really wet conditions with the rain falling throughout the whole match.
The visitors started the game slowly and Sam Blunden making his debut in goal had to be alert early on.
The home team had the chance to take the lead but a strong last ditch tackle by Louis Ogilvie snuffed out the chance.
The visitors slowly grew into the game and started to find their stride and play some nice passing and attacking football especially down the left through Sam Downes and Henry Ogilvie.
The pace of Thornbury’s strikers was starting to cause Wotton problems and both strikers Anthony Cooper and Josh Betts had good chances to give the visitors the lead but some fine saves by the home keeper kept the scores level.
Wotton had the next chance when their striker was played through on goal and with only the keeper to beat somehow the shot went high and wide to the relief of Thornbury.
Anthony Cooper then created time and space to get a shot away and bring out a fine save by the home keeper who had reacted acrobatically and tip the ball over the crossbar.
The visitors deservingly took the lead after forcing several corners as they applied intense pressure.
From a great in-swinging corner centre back Louis Ogilvie timed his run perfectly and connected well with his header looking goal bound his brother nipped in to have the final touch forcing the ball over line.
Thornbury made five changes at half-time giving the whole squad opportunity to stake a claim for a starting place in their next game.
The visitors were now playing up the slope and this seemed to help their passing game and they had the chance to extend the lead when Jordan Horseman was played through on goal but his shot failed to hit the target.
The game then became a midfield scrap with the energetic midfield pairing of captain Tom Cornock and Charlie Exel working really well to ensure that the home team did not get on top.
The home team started to attack frequently down their right side and forcing several good saves by Sam Blunden but Thornbury held firm and will be happy with their performance and winning start to the season.
