Chipping Sodbury round-up
OPENER Jake Reed and Nick Wake both compiled their maiden senior half centuries for Chipping Sodbury who suffered a nine-wicket reverse away to Bourton Vale in the West of England Premier League’s Gloucester division.
Reed was out for 52 and Wake for 51 in a total of 184 all out. And although Sodbury were well in contention at the half-way stage of the Vale innings, the home side pulled away to complete the win.
Sodbury seconds battled hard before losing a rain-affected encounter at the Ridings against Gloucester City Winget.
Will Christofi carried his bat for 67 in a home total of 205, fellow opener Tom Makepeace hitting 36 and Rich Lane 31.
The onset of wet weather led to GCW being set a revised target of 193. And despite Lane steaming in to capture 5-59, the visitors got over the line by three wickets with a couple of overs in hand.
Sodbury thirds, meanwhile, were washed out halfway through their Bristol & District Division Three clash away to United Banks at Easton-in-Gordano.
Banks had piled up 283-9, thanks mainly to 132 off 44 balls by Rohit Puri, before the clouds rolled in.
Sodbury fourths, though, continued their recent good form with a four-run home triumph against Dyrham & Hinton 2nds in Division Nine.
Ross Tyler’s maiden half century for Sodbury, allied to 40 from skipper James Millett and Steve Hill’s 28 helped the home side post a challenging total of 191.
Dyrham fell behind the run rate but launched a dramatic late assault only to be foiled by Jay Penfold who marked his return to action after a long injury lay-off with a haul of 5-28, including the final wicket of Duncan Pearce whose big-hitting 37 almost turned the match.
