Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and west
Yate Town 3 Mangotsfield United 3
YATE Town have made up for a disappointing Saturday by adding a further point to their Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West total in a six-point derby thriller at Lodge Road on Bank Holiday Monday.
Town went out of the FA Cup by 2-1 away at Brockenhurst on Saturday at the first hurdle in their qualifying round clash.
But Liam Monelle, who signed for Yate a few weeks ago, was the hero against Mangotsfield as he scored twice.
Yate were 1-0 up in 11 minutes when Monelle put the Bluebells in front with his first goal since joining the club.
Mangotsfield drew level on 22 minutes, but new signing Kane Ingram, on his home debut, put a perfectly placed free kick beyond the Mangotsfield keeper to put Yate 2-1 ahead.
And Yate went 3-1 up when Jake Jackson sent a ball into Monelle to add his second just before half-time.
It was a superb half by Yate as they battled to add three more points to the three they picked up against Slimbridge a week earlier.
But Yate’s bubble burst when Mangotsfield scored twice in four minutes, returning to one goal behind on 56 minutes before the Yate defence let in the equaliser on the hour.
However, with the momentum with Mangotsfield, Yate battled to ensure the opposition did not take all three points with a spectacular comeback and held on to the end for a very entertaining draw in front of 386 fans.
