Rodborough Youth 1 - 2 Thornbury Town U16
THORNBURY Town U-16S travelled to Rodborough on Sunday to conclude their pre-season friendly games.
The game started in muggy conditions with a fine drizzle and it was the home team who started the better of the two teams, they we more composed on the ball and were retaining the ball much better than the visitors who were giving away possession cheaply.
The home team deservedly took the lead when a a speculative shot from distance was initially saved by the visiting keeper but however he failed to hold onto the ball in the slippy conditions and the Rodborough player nodded into the empty net yo make it 1-0.
The visitors then started to settle and were much more physical than the home team and this started to pay dividends and Tom Cornock and Charlie Exel were getting to grips with game as they created several chances for their strikers to pull level but they failed to capitalise on the chances.
Thornbury made 4 substitutions at the break and several positional changes and this had a big impact on the game and from restart the visitors we bossing the game with Louis Ogilvie’s physical presence up front and Felix’s Brittans energy in the the centre of midfield paying dividends.
The visitors were level inside 5 minutes when striker Anthony Cooper collected the ball on the edge of the box and jinxed his way past the home defence to slot the ball under the keeper.
The game was being played mainly in the home team's half with Thornbury now passing the ball really well and left winger Matt Salter particularly having success in linking up with his strikers and it wasn't long before Thornbury took the lead for the first time in the match when Anthony Cooper grabbed his second of the game after another strong run and finish.
Thornbury were now creating chance after chance as the home team were struggling to contain them and only some good goalkeeping by the home keeper and wa steful finishing stopped Thornbury extending their lead further. A good performance which sends Thornbury into their first league game season in optimism mood.
