CITY were unable to build on last Saturday’s excellent win at Middlesbrough by losing 2-1 at home to Burnley at the weekend.

The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and have made some strong signings this summer including City target Andre Gray plus Joey Barton.

But it was City who looked much the better side for large parts of the first half. Bobby Reid tested former City ‘keeper Tom Heaton at his near post early on and then Kodjia was inches away from bundling the ball home after a ball into the box from Wilbraham.

Then, against the run of play City conceded two goals before half-time – both from corners.
Set piece specialist Jones delivered both with the first met by the head of Mee and the second Keane. It was incredibly frustrating to witness after City had played so well.

The pattern of the game wasn’t too dissimilar to our other two home games against Leeds and Brentford.

We are certainly getting out of the blocks quickly but we need to take our chances.

Further chances came in the second half for City through Kodjia, Flint and Derek Williams who clattered the post with a powerful strike. There was to be no late comeback like the Leeds game but Kodjia did notch a late consolation goal for City deep into injury time.

With the International break kicking in City now have no game for a fortnight.

Overall, it really has been a frustrating start to the season and I don’t think we’ve got the results that are performances have deserved. That said, this is a ruthless division and we have been naive defensively.

Another source of frustration has been signing players in the transfer window.

It was announced last week that summer signing Ryan Fredericks will be leaving the club after just 26 days with ‘personal reasons’ being cited. That means we’ve signed just one player on a permanent contract all summer – Kodjia.

Steve Cotterill has not been shy in letting his frustrations be known publicly and it has created a sense of unease amongst supporters.

No matter what hand we are dealt in the transfer market Cotterill should in my opinion concentrate on coaching and managing the team – after all he will be judged on results ultimately and at the moment they’re not quite good enough.
