COTSWOLD Edge Golf Club welcomed plenty of visitors last week for their Ladies and Men’s Invitation Days. 

The sun shone brightly on the men and the overall winners of the Invitation Cup were Graham Snell and M Merrick from Ross on Wye with an impressive 46 points, the Stokes Salver for the lowest gross score was won by visitor Trev Stewart with 82. 

Division 1: Graham Snell & M Merrick (Ross on Wye) 46 points, Mark Harris & L Hoze (Long Ashton) 43 & Mike Brealey & Trev Stewart (Chipping Sodbury) 43; Division 2: Rich Beale & Phil Gazely (Woodbridge Park) 45 points, Barry Thompson & C Hamer (St Pierre) 42 & Dave Marsh & B Leighworthy (Filton) 42.

The weather was slightly less favourable for the ladies but winners Mel Lee and Alex Latchford from Lansdown carded an excellent 38 points followed by Caroline Stokes and Jane Thomas (Minchinhampton New) 33 and Trish Stokes and Delia Mason (Minchinhampton New) 32. 

Arthur Spencer returned an under par score of nett 68 to win the September Midweek Medal followed by Pete Reynolds 69 and Simon Craker 71.  Graham Bartlett retained the Seniors Fellowship Trophy – a stableford competition for the current and previous Senior Captains – with 32 points followed by James Barnes 31 and Mike Chappenden 29.

The Beverley Plate, where both men and ladies compete in a stableford competition, was played in difficult weather conditions with Simon Craker winning overall.  Men: Simon Craker 36 points, Graham Snell 35 & Roger Fay 35.  Ladies: Ali Buncher 33 points, Catherine Beale 26 & Jacki Emerson 26

Ali Buncher also did well in the County Greensomes pairs stableford competition winning with partner Catherine Beale with 37 points to qualify along with second place Tina Lewis & Hannah Brown Pearce who also scored 37 points to go through to the final at Rodway Hill Golf Club on 14th October.
