Dursley 28 Gordon League 30

DURSLEY let their National Cup campaign slip at the first round stage as they went down by two points to Gordon League.
Dursley started the match in fine form from the kick-off with a strong break on the wing by Tom Vick, who was making his first team debut.
The Dursley front five of Damien Crosswell, Joe Cowley, Ty Chappell, Jack Western and Scott Udal put together some controlled phases for number eight Simon Camm to pick up just inside the 22 and break several tackles to score with just two minutes on the clock.
Fly-half Grant Boucher adding the conversion to make it 7-0 and put Dursley on the front foot.
Loose play allowed Gordon League back into the game minutes later with three points from a long range penalty in front of the posts.
On the eight minute mark, a mistake under the high ball just into their half by Gordon League allowed winger Olli Halford to collect the ball,  charge down the pitch and score in the corner with Boucher adding the difficult touch line conversion to put Dursley 11 points ahead at 14-3.
It was all looking good for the home side but, for the next 10 minutes, Dursley committed errors but fortunately Gordon League failed to capitalise on them from two missed penalty attempts.
At the midway point, an interception by Halford inside the Dursley 22 saw him race unchallenged to score under the posts with Boucher adding the extras. That put Dursley 21-3 up and looking odds on to win.
The centre partnership of Max Pullin and Jamie Gillespie worked well to put Vick through for another strong break but play went into touch.
Gordon League were unlucky  when they crossed the try line to score as play was brought back for a knock on. They had the consolation a short while afterwards, though, of another penalty to reduce the arrears to 15 points at 21-6.
Good tackling by back row Tom Broomfield and Jack Rowe and a good nudge deep into the Gordon League 22 by scrum-half Jack Pinker kept Dursley on the front foot as half-time approached.
Dursley started the second half with Josh Bailey replacing Halford on the wing but were unaware that a fightback was now about to begin.
Gordon League opened with a try and a conversion that that referee awarded to close the gap to 21-13.
Gordon League kept the pressure on but strong tackling by Chappell supported by full-back Liam Smith bundled a certain scoring opportunity into touch.
Dursley were reduced to 14 with a yellow card for Crosswell and, from there, Gordon League entered a purple patch adding two tries and a conversion to take the lead for the first time in the game by 25-21.
Gordon League lost their hooker to a yellow card and Dursley capitalised from a quick tap penalty  spread along the back line where an excellent dummy by Pullin put Vick through on the wing to run around and score under the posts.
It gave Boucher a simple conversion and saw Dursley retake the lead by 28-25.
Dursley continued to battle but despite strong tackling by Cowley, Western and Broomfield Gordon League added a further score to take the spoils 30-28 and knock Dursley out of the competition.
