WATCHING Elliott Frear flying down the wing, there appears to be nothing out of the ordinary about him.

And that is just how the jet-heeled Forest Green winger wants it.

Frear, 25, was diagnosed with asthma as a child, but regular use of an inhaler means he keeps the condition under control.

As a child, Frear drew inspiration from fellow asthma sufferer Paul Scholes – the former England and Manchester United legend.

“My asthma is something I’ve lived with all my life,” revealed Frear.

“It was a lot worse when I was younger and I understand the condition affects eight million people in the UK.

"My asthma is well controlled so it has never affected my performance and I urge any youngster with it to take inspiration from people like Paul Scholes and stay positive.

"I take my medication before a match and again at half- time if necessary and physio Wes (Ian Weston) has my inhaler with him just in case, but to be honest I barely use it."

Arguably Rovers’ star performer this season, Frear feels the National League leaders were unlucky to lose at home to Gateshead and insists his side can go to Grimsby this weekend in a positive mindset despite losing three out of the last four.

Frear added: “I really don’t know how we lost the game against Gateshead, but we remain top. Grimsby have found some form and will be tough to beat and people won’t expect us to get a result, but we will travel with confidence in our ability to go and get something.”
