JENNY Arnold’s side played well but were held to a draw in a six-goal clash with Clifton fourth team in a tight encounter at Castle School.
There were two goals from Nicola Bruce and one by Ellen Morgan which accounted for the home total.
Amanda McGarry–Ponting and Elaine Arnold performed well for the home side with the highly experienced Tracy Jones and livewire player Alex Arnold contributing a number of pleasing passes.
Alice Leaper was promoted to the team after a promising debut for the club last week and again she made a pleasing contribution to the outcome of the match.
Additionally, the young players Izzy Hunter, Tess Wheatley and Poppy Woolnough all made valuable contributions to the team effort, while the enthusiastic Rachel Underwood could not find the net on her senior debut but did well nevertheless.
Beth Brown was solid in the home goal, pulling off a number of excellent saves to deny the young visitors as the tough Clifton side tried to drive for the win. It was al good stuff and now it is onwards and upwards as Thornbury visit South Gloucestershire on Saturday.
l A Laura Hayward goal was not enough to prevent Thornbury seconds from a 2-1 loss at North Wilts. Sarah Brearley's side entertain Dursley on Saturday at Castle School (10.30am).
