Slimbridge 2 Burnham 0

THE Swans recorded their second League victory on the bounce, and their first of the season at Wisloe Road, when a goal in each half saw off Burnham. Jamie Martin scored just before the break to put the home side ahead, and Jack Twyman notched a superb second with 15 minutes remaining. The result moves Slimbridge up to 14th in the League table.

The home side made a good start, and were creating chances straight from the off - Paul Fahy playing Sean Lawson with the home side’s first touch of the ball, but Lawson saw his effort go just the wrong side of the Burnham post.

On 13 minutes, the same pair fashioned another opportunity, but this time Lawson’s shot was blocked by a defender and Burnham got the ball clear.

Burnham had a good opportunity when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Swans’ box, but Kane Jones drove his effort straight into the Slimbridge wall which held firm.

Five minutes before the break, Lawson was again unlucky when his reward for a powerful run and shot was another effort just wide.

Just before the break, the deadlock was finally broken when Jamie Martin was left in space in the box, and he collected the ball to drill home past Burnham Keeper Adam Thompson.

The Visitors had their best chance of the game ten minutes into the second period, but John bennett somehow managed to get a downward header to bounce up and over the bar with the goal gaping in front of him. It was to be the last time that Burnham threatened.

The chances continued to come for Slimbridge - Martin brought a good save from Thompson on 59 minutes, then Adam Mace saw a goalbound effort blocked. Mace then put a lovely dangerous ball into the Burnham box that Martin was inches away from converting, and Lawson’s bad luck continued when he rounded the Keeper, only to see his shot cleared off the line.

Eventually, the second goal did finally arrive - the ball came to Jack Twyman on the edge of the Burnham box, and his precision pinpoint volley dipped just at the right time to leave Thompson grasping at thin air and give the Swans some breathing space.

There was still time for two more good efforts from the home side - Sam Blackie hit side netting late on, and in stoppage time, Dean Turner set up Mace, whose effort was again just off target.
