ROVERS ended their home hoodoo in convincing fashion by defeating Carlisle 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Before the action began, there were moving tributes to the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris as the French national anthem was played and a minute’s silence was immaculately observed.

As the game kicked off the players showed they were determined to banish the memory of the FA Cup debacle the previous Sunday.

They were quick to win possession and carved out a number of chances from wide positions. However, it was the same old story we have seen at the Mem this season, as despite dominating and playing well, we could not put the ball in the back of the net.

Lines justified his recall to the starting 11 as he was an influential performer in midfield, bringing others into play and pushing forward at every opportunity.

Although we were getting some excellent crosses into the box it looked as though the strike partnership of Easter and Taylor were never likely to get on the end of some of the chances.

It was a positive display but frustrating, as we went into half-time goalless.

The second half started in much the same fashion as the Pirates continued to play some decent football and looked much the better side, despite the terrible weather conditions, without being able to turn their advantage into goals.

Just as we were wondering if Clarke would make a change and freshen up the attacking options, Taylor converted an outstanding move that saw man-of-the-match Lines deliver a pinpoint pass across the box to give us the lead.

He added to his tally just before full-time with a fine strike from the edge of the area to notch his eighth of the season.

The relief was palpable around the ground as we secured our second home victory in the league this season and moved up to eighth in the table, just outside the play-off zone on goal difference.

The Gas will look to continue the winning sequence with a trip to Crawley on Saturday before hosting Stevenage on Tuesday.
