Yate Town 0 Bishops Cleeve 0

YATE Town earned themselves a much needed point as they held in - form Bishop's Cleeve to a goalless draw at Lodge Road on Tuesday night.

And as much as the Bluebells could not find the Bishop's Cleeve net, there were positives to come out of the performance.

Yate had the elements in their favour during the first-half so it was crucial that they made the most of the strong wind that was blowing around Lodge Road while they had the chance.

And they pressurised Bishop's Cleeve in sporadic moments early on without really causing visiting goalkeeper Sam Gilder too many problems.

Centre back Calum Laird got the ball inside the opposition penalty box from a corner but with clear sight on the Bishop's goal, put the ball over the bar.

Monments later, Jake Jackson also found himself in clear space but he was another guilty party of not finding the target as his shot also sailed into the night sky.

They were chances that Yate could ill afford to miss as the Bishop's looked to make it back-to-back victories after winning at Slimbridge on Saturday.

Wing Jordan Bryan had the opposition's first real chance on Martin Horsell 's home net but his strike fro outside the penalty box also went high and away.

Yate played some neat football and they hussled and harried their opponent's midfield and defence well.

And from a foul just outside the Bishop's Cleeve box, full-back Jake Cox had the best chance of the match thus far when he struck an excellent free kick through the defensive wall to have Gilder scambling on his line to just parry the ball away from the net.

Yate's pressure saw Kane Ingram drive just wide of the Bishop's left hand post while a couple of crosses from the Yate left also went dangerously near the post where just a touch would have seen a goal.

But this was a better performance despite the lack of goals than recently and where there was frustration ib previous outings, there was a sense of positiveness as the half ended goalless.

And after the break, Yate's tactics of short, direct passing kept the Bishop's on the back foot. Jackson had another chance ut could not curl it far enough with his right foot to trouble the keeper.

Also a good corner from the left saw Nathan Gore deflect his header just over the bar.

It was not for the want of trying that Yate were still without a goal as the match reached the final 15 minutes, with Alec Fiddes on the left wing a constant thorn in the Bishop's Cleeve defence.

With five minutes left, sub Karen Goulding had a guilt - edged chance to break the deadlock k when he was put through into the opposition penalty area.

He only had Gilder to beat from ten yards but his screaming shot was well saved by the keeper.

The final minutes saw Yate remain on top but with legs tiring, errors crept in. But it was all credit that, after the disappointment of defeat against Wimborne on Saturday, it was some food for thought for manager Craig Laird and his squad.
