FOREST Green defender James Jennings insists the heavily dubbed 'El Glosico' is ‘just another fixture’.

Second-placed Rovers go toe-to-toe with the National League leaders Cheltenham Town on Saturday at the World of Smile Stadium, but Jennings, who impressively notched up his fourth goal of the season in the 3-1 victory over Dover Athletic, is ready for the hotly anticipated Gloucestershire derby.

He said: “We’ll treat El Glosico like any other game, that’ll be our mindset and we’ll go into it full of confidence; it’s just another fixture.

“We’re on a good run and we’ve got a full week to be working on it on the training ground, and we’ll make sure we get things right. I’m looking forward to it, so bring it on.”

Cheltenham leapfrogged Rovers to top spot last week and have posted back-to-back victories with thumping 5-0 and 4-0 wins against Guiesley and Southport respectively, but boss Ady Pennock is concentrating on his own side.

“We’re the noisy neighbours at the moment. We’re only this little club on top of a hill and we’ve put ourselves in a position to challenge for the title.

“We can play some great football but we’ve shown that we can also roll up our sleeves when the going gets tough and do the dirty work.”

Rovers are only point behind their local rivals. But Pennock insists it’s vital that El Glosico must not become a ‘make-or-break’ fixture.

“It’s a cracking game but at the end of the day, especially because of the rivalry. But if we win or lose it doesn’t mean we’re going to win or lose the championship.”

Former Cheltenham Town midfielder Darren Carter believes the rivalry is only going to increase throughout the season, and can’t wait for Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash.

“It’s going to be a really exciting match. You can’t get away from the fact now that we’re both sitting first and second in the division and there’s a bit of a gap now to third place.

It’s going to be really tight all season with both of us vying for the top spot.”

The former Birmingham City man scored the goal of the match last weekend; a sweet curling effort from 25 yards to give Rovers four wins from five, and he believes this kind of form will be a huge asset come Saturday.

“We go there full of confidence after the good run we’ve been on ourselves. It’s a local derby; it’s all set up be a fantastic game and it’s these games we want to be playing.”

Defender Darren Jones is expected to miss the game having hobbled off against Dover with a hamstring injury.
