Dursley 27 Bredon Star 0

DURSLEY are in third place after they returned to winning ways against Bredon Star on Saturday.

They were keen for the victory but heavy rain in the previous days made pitch conditions difficult.

Dursley started strongly with an early break by winger Mike Johnson and a good carry by prop Damien Crosswell saw centre Chris Perrett cut a superb line to break the Bredon defence but unlucky that the last pass was judged to be forward.

Dursley pressured the Bredon defence and were eventually rewarded 12 minutes in as scrum half Jack Pinker touched down just outside the posts and fly half Chris Colston adding the extras 7-0.

Shortly after hooker Joe Cowley left the field due to injury to be replaced by Tom Haggerty making his debut for the team.

Prop Ty Chappell worked hard to retain loose ball as Dursley hit the Bredon line. The forward pack of Crosswell, Haggerty, Chappell, Jack Western, Mark Perry,Scott Udal, Jack Rowe and Simon Camm outshone the opposition at the set piece winning several scrums against the head.

At the 20 minute mark Colston supported by centre A J Caddick and Rowe crossed for Dursley’s second try but missed the conversion 12-0.

Minutes later following more strong scrummaging Camm picked up at the back of the scrum and hard yards by Perry set up Chappell to add to the score with try number three but no extras from Colston 17-0.

With five minutes left in the half and the Dursley forwards dominating good link up between Camm and Pinker put Johnson through to score in the corner and Colston was unlucky with the difficult kick as it skimmed the underside of the cross bar 22-0.

More good work in the air by Colston along with Western and Udal in the line out kept possession with Dursley to bring the half to a close with the score unchanged at 22-0.

From the kick off in the second half Bredon pressured for long spells but the Dursley defence remained solid and a crunching tackle by Caddick and strong work holding up the maul by Rowe stopped Bredon’s challenge. With 15 minutes played Liam Smith replaced Johnson on the wing.

Despite the conditions winger Tom Vick made a good break from deep but was stopped short of the line.

At the half way mark Jake Martin joined the front row to replace Corsswell. Bredon continued to attack but a beautifully weighted long distance clearance by the Dursley full back relieved the pressure.

Camm, Western, Udal , Martin and Perry put in hard yards to gain territory and the Dursley scrum continued to dominate. With 10 minutes to play Johnson returned to the field with Vick moving to full back.

They Dursley forwards showed no mercy as new boy Haggerty picked up the ball on the five metre to drive to the line but due to the strong cross wind Colston missed the conversion 27-0.

Dursley were keen to keep a clean sheet and defended well to the end with the score unchanged on the final whistle 27-0.

The maximum points win place Dursley third in the league and facing a difficult away fixture against Brockworth on Saturday 30th January.
