Aretians U13 girls v Chipping Sodbury U13 girls

DUE to the weather, the home team become the away team as Aretians were able to host.

As the match got underway, Aretians started the brighter and took full advantage of some loose defending by Sodbury running in a brace of tries in quick fashion to take an early lead.

Sodbury found out that they had a fight on their hands and started to wake to the challenge.

Jemima Forrester stopping an almost certain try with a last ditch tackle right before the line, but even this only held the home side back for a short time as they ran in a third try in to end the first quarter three tries to nil ahead.

Sodbury came out for the second quarter fighting with Jaya Hunt in the forefront and making sublime runs.

There was great support play by Carla Hays-White allowing Hunt to take off again and score in the corner.

Hunt followed this with another impetuous run to score her second of the match.

Aretians not to be out done came back with a well worked driving maul to crash over the line and score to make it 4-2 at the half-time break.

The match was evenly balanced in the third quarter as both teams showed some outstanding driving and open play moves but it was Sodbury who struck first after Bethany Pierce-Jones punched a hole and offloaded a pass to Cerys Stait.

She made a carving run through the defence and made ground which allowed Isobel Palmer to collect the ball and stride out to the corner and score.

Then Hunt picked up a knock on and jinking her way through the tightest of gaps, she ran in for a third try only for Aretians to slip through a tackle and cross the line at the whistle to make it 5-4.

The final quarter was again played at a whirlwind pace with both teams applying the pressure, pushing for the win.

Aretians took first blood with another energy sapping drive towards the line being rewarded with a try.

From the restart Jasmine Darby showed great pace to create an opening for Lara Woodhouse who was voted player of the match, to collect a pass and run in a solo try from her own half.

The game flowed on and Sodbury battled hard to find a way through and level the score only for the home side to claim the last try for a 7-5 final score.
