YATE Hockey Club played Stroud last weekend and the first 10 minutes of the action were dominated by Yate, with plenty of scoring opportunities being created by Lucy Saunders.

Unfortunately, Yate were unable to convert these into goals and after some extremely quick work by the Stroud attack, Yate were 2-0 down.

A brilliant hassle at the top of the D led to Yate’s first goal, calmly put to the back of the net by team captain Ruth Belcher.

The second half saw Stroud score two more goals in quick succession, as attackers used their speed to deftly get past Yate’s defence.

With 15 minutes to go, top-of-the-table Stroud were 4-1 up but, after a brilliant goal by Nat Summers, Yate ladies were back in the game.

The change of pace saw Yate quickly score another goal, set up by Nat Summers and swept into the goal by Tash Child.

This gave way to an explosion of shouts from the Yate sideline willing the team to score once more in the last few minutes of the game, a task that was thankfully realised through some disciplined work from the Yate side.

A brilliantly fought 4-4 draw, and an end score which felt like a win for the Yate ladies.

Stroud remain top of the table with Yate one point behind them in second place.
