Westberries 4ths 1 Thornbury 1

ENTHUSIASTIC front runner Rachel Underwood did not require the assistance of her sat-nav to find the net in Thornbury's deserved 1-1 draw against the league leaders.

The game was played in wet, miserable conditions at Coombe Dingle with both sides relieved to hear the final whistle.

Play was fairly even in the opening half with Thornbury keeper Liz Jenkins making a couple of excellent saves and Elaine Arnold, Tess Wheatley and Sara Newman frustrating the home side with some timely clearances.

Alex Arnold and Amanda McGarry roamed in midfield with enthusiasm, providing a number of pleasing through balls to Poppy Woolnough, Laura Hayward and Lucy Woodruff whilst Tracey Jones, Jen Arnold and Rachel Underwood were involved in a number of quick-fire exchanges.

These managed to produce the equalising Thornbury goal when Arnold's cross found Underwood who hammered the ball home.

Thornbury have managed to pick up two wins and a draw since the mid-season break in their effort to move up the table, and the team now have another break from league action when a couple of friendlies will be played.

North Wilts 2nds 3 Thornbury 2nds 0

THORNBURY faced an uphill struggle from the start when, following a late withdrawal and a travel hiccup, they were only able to field nine players for their match with North Wilts seconds.

Nevertheless, the players performed heroically in trying conditions.

Larly Staton, in goal, made a number of excellent saves to deny a home side who gained their first win against Thornbury this season.

Kim Bird, Angela Greenslade and Sarah Brealey showed tremendous application and skill in dealing with the home attack whilst Rosie Liddington, Jess Taylor and Ellie Morgan contributed a number of nice touches up front.

Amy Morse and Lauren Upham gave their usual committed contributions to the cause and although losing 3-0, a score of just 1-0 would have been a fairer reflection of the match.

The team have a weekend off before entertaining Dursley at Castle School on Saturday week, February 20.
