KAILAN Gould, of Yate Town, played only a few miles from the club but inflict a crushing defeat on Yate's County Football Association representative side.

Gould completed a hat-trick as Somerset hit five second half goals to clinch their first win of the season in the South and West Counties Championship.

It was a game of two halves played in terrible weather at Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, in driving rain and strong gusty winds.

Gloucestershire had the conditions in their favour in the first half and Fergus McDerinad had great difficulty clearing the ball more than 25 yards with the wind blowing the ball back.

It was against the run of play when Liam Villis was put through to be brought down by goalkeeper Sam Clay, Gould stepped forward to convert the penalty on nine minutes.

Somerset nearly increased their lead on 19 minutes but Villis shot wide when clean through.

Gloucestershire hit back but were unable to get the equaliser and were camped with the winds assistance in the Somerset half, two free kicks from the right hand side went narrowly wide and one was pushed over the bar by McDeriniad.

Three corners quickly followed before Gloucestershire grabbed the equalised a corner by Jack Freeman was converted at the far post by Kingsley Miller .

A good free kick by Ollie Yates nearly gave Gloucestershire the lead and Ashley Bird just missed with a good shot on 44 minutes.

Somerset were pleased to reach half time at 1-1 and would fancy their chances in the second half with the elements in their favour.

Gloucestershire held their own for ten minutes in the second half before they lost the ball in midfield and a slick passing move left Gould to score his second goal after 57 minutes.

As the conditions worsened Gould compiled his hat trick with a 20 yard left volley to make the score 3-1.

Ten minutes later Somerset made it four with a square pass which was rifled home right footed by Villis.

With Gloucestershire tiring Somerset rubbed salt in the wounds with two late goals to make the score 6-1.
