LOWLY Yate Town Reserves can do Frampton United a huge favour in the Gloucestershire County League on Saturday.

AEK Boco are runaway leaders at the top of the table and victory for them at mid-table Broadwell Amateurs will give them the title.

However, the race for second is still on with Frampton, currently occupying that position behind Boco, not playing.

It means that Henbury, in third and four points behind United, can close the gap to just a point if they beat Yate Town Reserves.

However, the Bluebells’ second team have enough incentive to win their big clash at home to Henbury.

They are only a point above bottom side Kingswood but with the villagers on a tremendous run of victories and playing mid-table Bishops Cleeve Reserves at home, a victory for Kingswood and a loss for Yate Town will put the Reserves on the bottom.

Fourth-placed Patchway Town, who are six points behind Frampton, can also put the heat on United if they beat Hardwicke, who are also mid-table.

And fifth-placed Thornbury Town can also join the pack on United’s tail if they are victorious against struggling Hanham Athletic at the Mundy Playing Fields.

Thornbury, who took four points of out six against Frampton last week, are just seven points off second place and, like Henbury and Patchway Town above them, have two games in hand on Frampton before Saturday’s fixtures.
