OLLIE Thorley described his first Aviva Premiership start as 'a dream come true' after his debut try saw Gloucester Rugby grab a 16-9 win over high-flying Exeter Chiefs.

The Cherry and Whites showed composure and a clinical edge to respond immediately to going behind to Gareth Steenson's 41st minute penalty, and Thorley's key try was reward for an impressive personal display.

The 19-year old crossed the line in the second half after a wonderful assist from Tom Savage to keep the ball in-field despite the attention of a pair of Chiefs' defenders.

Speaking to the club website shortly after the final whistle, Thorley admitted he hadn't been able to take in the events of the previous 80 minutes.

"The feeling hasn't really hit me yet, it was incredible. It was nice that I had a few moments to take in the atmosphere before I put it down. The sound of the crowd was amazing today.”

"People always say that the first try stays with you for a long time, and this one for me will definitely live long in the memory.”

Thorley, who made his England U20 bow in the winter, holds the record as Gloucester's youngest try scorer of the professional era, and took on England's Jack Nowell, fresh back from the Six Nations.

Despite the calibre of his opposite number, Thorley was a worthy foe to the livewire Exeter man who was yellow carded late on for a tackle on his opposite man.

"It was a great challenge, I had a look at his game during the week, looked at how he operates and found ways to counteract that.”

"I really want to learn from players like Jack, and today has given me an incredible platform to go on and do that.”

After performances for the England U20's in this year's Six Nations and now his first senior start for Gloucester, the future looks bright for the youngster.

"It was an amazing feeling today putting on that first team jersey.”
