FOREST GREEN boss Ady Pennock congratulated National League champions Cheltenham Town and then insisted he wants to make it a Gloucestershire double.

Winless in seven, Rovers are going to need to find some form in the play-offs as Woking staged a late show to come from behind and bag three points for the first time since January with an injury time Cameron Norman goal.

He said: “You’ve got to give Cheltenham credit and Gary Johnson has done a great job and they have had a fantastic season , but it has been exciting - both sides come from Gloucestershire and it’s great to have the two best teams in the National League coming from this area.”

And the former Stoke City coach feels his side have made significant progress in his two full-seasons at the New Lawn and he now wants a trip to Wembley.

“The carrot is Wembley. I have been twice as a player and coach, so the carrot is huge and for us to go to Wembley, would be a fantastic achievement.”

Wembley will be a lush surface to play on if Rovers can reach their play-off final goal, but Pennock was less than complimentary about the current New Lawn pitch and is set to jump on the mower next week ahead of the final home league game of the season against Jim Harvey’s Halifax Town on Saturday.

He said: “The pitch is a disgrace, we haven’t had a groundsman for the last month. I will have to get back on the grass and actually roll it better. It looks fine from a distance, but it’s very bumpy and when you’re on it, it’s awful.”

Rovers made two changes from the draw at Braintree – David Pipe coming in for Dale Bennett (ribs) and Kieffer Moore handed a start up front in place of Jon Parkin (groin).

Woking started brightly, Bruno Andrade stepping on the gas and forcing Steve Arnold into a one-handed save inside three minutes.

However, Rovers took the lead on 10 minutes – Moore finishing with aplomb from a slide-rule Sam Wedgbury pass.

Rovers were rocking and Moore should have had a second when Charlie Clough pulled the ball back for the giant striker, who couldn’t get a clean strike inside the box.

Aarran Racine went even closer, but could only direct his header into Jake Cole’s gloves.

Rovers were certainly in the driving seat – Cole parried a Moore stab with Elliott Frear fizzing the free ball wide.

Intricate passing involving Keanu Marsh-Brown and Frear saw Kurtis Guthrie nod onto the roof of the net as Woking struggled to gain a foothold.

Rovers were pleasing on the eye - Guthrie shot into Cole following a Moore chest-pass and a Frear assist.

Minutes later Guthrie had a goal chalked – off for offside as Rovers ended the half in the box-seat.

Rovers started the second half with intent – Guthrie opening his legs and shooting over the bar after the no-nonsence David Pipe’s crunching tackle created the opening.

Woking responded, but Pipe saved Rovers with a vital block as Daniel Carr and Kieran Murtagh looked to open the Nailsworth side up.

Robert Carlos like skills from Forest Green left-back James Jennings ended when his fine approach play wasn’t matched with a 25-yard skewed strike.

Woking were thrown a lifeline on 67 minutes.

Marsh-Brown had his pocket picked by Murtagh and he released Andrade, who won his foot- race with Pipe who clipped the flying-winger inside the box. Carr kept his cool to score from the spot despite the efforts of Arnold, who gloved the ball onto the post.

Pennock made a double sub soon after - bringing on Anthony Jeffrey and Brett Williams for Guthrie and Marsh-Brown respectively.

And Rovers hit back. Frear volleying into Cole and Darren Carter nodding a great chance wide with nine minutes to go.

Fans’ favourite Marcus Kelly entered the fray on 87 minutes to arguably the biggest cheer of the day and he was quickly into the action with a teasing free-kick.

In the dying embers, Moore had two headers blocked and one penalty claim ignored.

In added time Woking snatched it when Cameron Norman slammed home a gift after Arnold and Clough went for the same ball.
