SOUTH Gloucestershire and Stroud College AASE boxer Nicole Flourentzou made a successful first appearance at Downend Boxing Club on Sunday.

Flourentzou previously had a contest a year ago which she lost on points.

The 17-year-old faced Savannah Lee at the Harry Crook Centre in Fishponds.

Round one saw honours even with some lively exchanges and good strategic boxing from both girls.

The second saw Flourentzou score with accurate straight shots, but Lee was having none of it,, coming back with fast combination punches.

The last round was Flourentzou’s best and the fast pace set from the start was maintained.

At the final bell, the points decision went Flourentzou.

Afterwards she said: “The AASE training has given me a new approach to the sport, and I am beginning to focus on the contest plan, rather than the result.

“This relaxes me, and I’ve found that my boxing is far more fluent as a result.”

SGS Head of Boxing Craig Turner said: “I am over the moon with Nicole’s performance.

“Prior to now her hardest fight has been against herself, now with confidence restored she can fulfil her full potential.”
