ROB Cowlard showed he is still in fine form when he raced to third place in the local Berkeley 10k a week last Monday in a time of 36.15 minutes.

Behind him there was success for a number of other Thornbury Running Club members.

Angela Bushell was delighted with her time of 49.21 minutes which saw her first in the FV45 age group and Janet Gaze also won her category, first FV60 in 54.56 minutes.

Ros Rowland shows no sign of slowing down, second in the FV50 category in 45.14 minutes.

Steve Allen (40.18 minutes) and Helen Renshaw (one hour 09.24 minutes) both came third in their age groups.

There was a good turnout for the club with times also for Paul Thomas (41.05 minutes), Liam Jones (46.22 minutes), Kevin Arnold (46.37 minutes), Steve Dimond (48.31 minutes), Jon Welsh (52.32 minutes), Simon Loughran (54.14 minutes), Hugh McPherson (54.45 minutes) and Arthur Renshaw, apparently running with his wife (one hour 09.31 minutes).

A week after the Berkeley 10k came the somewhat bigger and more expensive Bristol 10k.

Angela Bushell had deliberated over entering but clearly made the right decision, taking a further 15 seconds from her Berkeley personal best time over what was a trickier course.

Liam Jones’ time went the other way, 15 seconds slower in 46.37 minutes, while Andrew Darton recorded 38.26 minutes, nearing his best for the distance.

Ian Peacock completed the course in 51.15 minutes, while Liz Dix was pleased to smash the one hour target she had set herself, 58.43 minutes.

At parkruns on May 7, husband-and-wife teams went to Chipping Sodbury with Karen Carr finishing in 28.13 minutes, Malcolm Carr 27.05 minutes, Anne Palmer 31.57 minutes and David Palmer 28.44 minutes.

Becky Griffin recorded 28.55 minutes at Little Stoke, with Kevin Cundy 22.41 minutes and Garry Slater 18.51 minutes.

Garry Slater completed his 100th parkrun with an unannounced visit to Kingsway, Gloucester.

He ran 18.44 minutes, his best for many months.

The Cape Wrath Challenge, a week-long running event based at Durness in Scotland, is now in its 15th year.

Each year a contingent from Thornbury have made the journey and this year Judy Mills and Pete Mainstone entered the races.

In Monday’s Loch Eriboll half marathon, with four runs ahead of them, Mainstone finished the 13.1 miles in two hours 03.32 minutes and Mills in two hours 05.48.
