Rockhampton CC U15’s v’s Hambrook - U15’s

BYCL League

Rockhmapton Rams U15’s started their season in fine fashion with a six wicket win against Hambrook U15’s to reverse a heavy defeat in the same fixture last season.

After winning the toss and asking the visitors to set a total, the Rams claimed a key early break- through - left armer James Rogers bowling the dangerous Weston for a duck in the first over.

His (2 for 17 from 4 ovrs) and leg spinner Samuel Long’s (3 for 10 from 4 ovrs) spells were always attacking and probing. Dan Beddoes kept the pressure on the away side with a very controlled spell (2 for 9 from 4 ovrs) and debutant W.Biggins bowled with some pace - this, along with impressive glove work from skipper Sam Maskell (two catches, one stumping and one bye) and disciplined fielding kept the total down to 100.

Hambrook bowled with early pace (Kislingbury 2 for 15 from 4 ovrs & Weston with 1 for 14 from 4), claiming an early break through and generally making life very difficult for the Rams early batsman.

When Maskell (16 runs) and Jamie Alexander were dismissed the game looked to be going the visitors way - eight an over required from the last 7 overs.

But Long (44 n.out) batted with patience and his shot selection paid off with him and Rogers (18 n.out) wrestling back the advantage - in an exciting finish, the pair took the Rams over the line with just 2 balls to spare. A fine advert for youth cricket - played competitively and in the right spirit.
