Apart from the parkrunners it was weekend for Dursley’s Running Club’s endurance athletes.

On Saturday, Ray Williams took on the Lanzarote Ironman, one of the hardest courses on the Ironman circuit.

Williams started off with a steady two-lap swim, just 25 seconds slower than in 2015, still placing 11th in his category.

Once onto the bike, he really turned on the power, completing the 112 mile course in six hours 20:44mins. This was a huge 28 minutes faster than last year and over an extremely challenging course with 2,551m of climbing.

The effort on the bike told in the run, Williams' marathon time being ten minutes slower than the previous year.

The effort was worth it, however. Williams smashed his 2015 time of 12 hours 31:18mins by sixteen and a half minutes and placed 11th in his age category and 556th out of almost 1,900 triathletes.
