Rockhampton CC U15s v Hambrook U15s
ROCKHAMPTON Rams U15s started their season in fine fashion with a six-wicket win against Hambrook U15s to reverse a heavy defeat in the same fixture last season.
After winning the toss and asking the visitors to set a total, the Rams claimed a key early break- through, left armer James Rogers bowling the dangerous Weston for a duck in the first over.
His 2-17 from four overs and leg spinner Samuel Long’s 3-10 from four overs meant they were always attacking and probing.
Dan Beddoes kept the pressure on the away side with a very controlled spell of 2-9 from four overs and debutant Will Biggins bowled with some pace.
This, along with impressive glove work from skipper Sam Maskell (two catches, one stumping and one bye) and disciplined fielding kept the total down to one hundred.
Hambrook bowled with early pace (Kislingbury 2-15 from four overs and Weston with 1-14 from four overs), claiming an early breakthrough and generally making life very difficult for the Rams early batsman.
When Maskell (16 runs) and Jamie Alexander were dismissed the game looked to be going the visitors way at eight an over required from the last seven overs.
But Long (44 not out) batted with patience and his shot selection paid off with him and Rogers (18 not out) wrestling back the advantage.
In an exciting finish, the pair took the Rams over the line with just two balls to spare.
