Stone v Frocester thirds

A BRILLIANT bowling performance saw Stone march to an easy Gloucestershire County League Division Two victory over Frocester on Saturday.

Not one of Frocester’s batsmen managed to get over twenty runs as Stone bowled them into oblivion.

The writing was on the wall early on when Charlie Viney had three of the top four wickets.

Opener Renaldo Hyland was caught by Greg Allen off Viney for eight while Viney bowled fellow opener Josh Roberts for a duck.

Number four Tony Clarkson was caught by Tim Lezard off Viney, also for nought which put Frocester in terrible trouble.

Number three John Evans and captain Chris Partridge tried to rebuild the innings but Evans was trapped lbw by James Thomas for ten and Partridge was caught for 15.

Frocester’s Adam Hopkins hit two boundaries in his unbeaten 14 as the rest of the batting order collapsed with five wickets going for just 15 and Frocester finishing all out for just 71.

The domination of Stone was shown in the batting figures with Viney bowling an impressive six maidens in his nine overs. He finished with three wickets for just 12 runs.

Lee Thomas also took three wickets for 17 runs off just six overs, while James Thomas took two wickets for only four runs off 3.3 overs.

It was not the biggest target to reach and Stone skipper Lavis made hay while the sun shone as he cracked two sixes and four boundaries in 52 runs before he was caught with the Stone total on 67.

Opener Alan Sherman ended on 14 not out and Tim Lezard was unbeaten on four as Stone reached 72-1 in 17.1 overs.
