Coalpit Heath 2ndXI vs Alveston Coalpit Heath – 82ao Alveston – 85-7

After a frustrating cancellation in the previous weekend, Alveston returned to action at Coalpit Heath.

Winning the toss and electing to field Alveston’s opening bowlers had Coalpit Heath struggling throughout.

With the Red Arrows providing interest on their flypast, Lloyd Allen(9-5-14-1) and Wayne Grunshaw(9-4-7-3) bowled superbly, backed up by tight fielding leaving Coalpit Heath 21-4 after 18 Overs.

Trying to keep the score ticking over, Honeywill batted patiently for his 34 but Alveston were not to be halted this weekend and Matthew Roberts (6.5-1-16-5) finished the job off within 35 Overs.

With tea pushed back, Coalpit Heath started well with George and Warren. Alveston put extra pressure on themselves by losing early wickets leaving them at 11-2 at tea.

After tea, wickets continued to fall and at 32-4 tension still remained. Matthew Roberts (39*), now wielding the bat steadied the ship and with some sensible batting, crossed the finish line in the 29th over for the loss of 7 wickets to give another maximum points performance lifting Alveston to 3rd.

Alveston host Lodway in the cup this week before returning to league action against Bishop Sutton next week.
