THE Chipping Sodbury Slayers are hoping to make an impact in Gloucestershire’s new NatWest U19 Club T20 Cup.

The event has been designed to encourage more teenagers to remain involved with the sport.

And it features the use of coloured kit, pink match balls, coloured stumps and flashing bails with live music blaring out across the outfield.

Sodbury, whose special kit is sponsored by Ian Williams and Ichor Sysems Ltd, this summer have two home ties.

The first is against local rivals Hawkesbury Upton on Friday (6pm) (July 8), while Bedminster Bashers are the visitors to the Ridings on Friday July 29.

Entry to both games is free, and it is hoped that large crowds will enjoy the fast and furious cricket action as well as to tuck into the barbeque on offer.

Sodbury team manager Jake Havard said: “We can’t wait for the matches to get underway.

“They’re great fun to play in and the people who came along to watch us last summer really enjoyed the cricket so we’re hoping for more of the same this time round.”

A total of 24 clubs across the county have entered this season’s competition with the hope of progressing to the knock-out stages.

And as well as striving for wins, teams are trying to earn ‘Blast Points’ which the away side award according to the T20 match day experience that is created.

The Slayers' other group matches will be Bristol West Indians & Phoenix, Downend and Cam.
