CHIPPING Sodbury suffered a disappointing one-run home setback against Dumbleton in a thrilling West of England Premier League Gloucestershire Division clash at The Ridings.
The home side restricted Dumbleton to 171 after winning the toss, with skipper Jamie Rendell (3-20) leading the from the front assisted by Mason Poole (2-34), Jay Penfold (2-42), Ben Waldron (1-24) and Phil Lill (1-27).
In reply, Sodbury were in good shape at 101-3 thanks to John Rendell’s 43. But the dismissal of the opener, followed swiftly by the departure of Lill (23), gave Dumbleton a route back into the game and the visitors managed to squeeze out victory in a tense clash which went down to the last ball.
It was a better day for Sodbury seconds who romped in by seven wickets at Lydney to remain in the promotion shake-up in Division Three of the Gloucestershire County League.
Rich Lane (5-15) was the star, backed by Dan Brown (3-18), as Lydney folded to 95 all out ahead of the visitors completing a comfortable victory.
Sodbury thirds, meanwhile, completed an excellent 31-run victory away to Almondsbury seconds in Division Seven of the Bristol and District League.
Skipper Steve Febry’s late 70 boosted the visitors to 160 all out, a total which gave Jack Thacker (3-23) and Tom Brown (3-36) a real chance to make an impact after fine spells too from Aaron Morgan (0-21), Harry Phillips (1-23) and Mike Pearson (1-14).
Sodbury fourths and fifths, though, suffered defeats.
Bohemian seconds reached 182-7. In reply, Sodbury could muster only 95 all out Sodbury fifths, meanwhile, came off second best in a hastily-arranged friendly with Bedminster fifths despite another tight spell of bowling from Chris Young.
