Gloucestershire County League Division One.

Painswick 223-7 beat Cam 184ao by 39 runs

CAM fell short in response to a challenging total for the second week running as they lost by 39 runs away to Painswick.

The early breakthrough was made by George Dolling who trapped MacDuff lbw for 12.

However, it was Painswick who dominated the first half of the innings with Jennings and Griffiths forming a determined partnership to take the home side past the hundred mark.

Gareth Udal was rewarded for his economical spell as he had Griffiths (46) held on the boundary by Ryan Western to help kick start Cam’s fightback.

Ben Holloway then picked up the wicket of Jennings (57), caught by Eddie Rendall on his return to first team action, before dismissing Edwards and Harber in quick succession to get his side back into the game.

Ali Bressington and Reece Morris joined together to try to push Painswick towards two hundred, and they began to raise the scoring rate before Morris (29) was caught on the long on boundary off the bowling of Dolling.

Alex Ballard entered the attack and removed Gavin Clark for a duck, giving Tom Deakin his third catch of the innings, but a late flourish from Bressington took Painswick to 223-7 as he finished on 48 not out.

Cam’s innings bore a similar pattern to the previous week as the top order found it difficult to find a rhythm and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Ryan Malpass was caught at gully as he attempted to get Cam off to a quick start. Stuart Newman (16), Gareth Udal (19) and Jake Dolbear (11) all made it to double figures but could not kick on as Cam were pegged back by the Painswick bowlers.

First change bowlers Mason and Reece Morris continued to apply the pressure as Tom Deakin, Adam Holloway and Ben Holloway all fell cheaply as Cam lost five wickets for sixteen runs to leave them in peril on 78-7.

In a similar turn of events to last week, Western and Dolling attempted to salvage the situation and they succeeded in restoring some respectability to the total in a partnership worth 79.

Western acted as the aggressor as he crashed seven fours and four sixes in his knock of 65 from 47 balls, while Dolling played a more subdued innings as he looked to give the strike to his partner.

With Cam suddenly gaining sight of an improbable victory, Western was held on the boundary off the bowling of Paul Morris with the score on 157-8.

Dolling and Ballard added a further 21 runs before Dolling was caught out in similar fashion for 19.

Cam’s innings ended as Ballard was bowled for 18 to leave Rendall unbeaten on one run and Cam 39 runs short of their target.

l Cam seconds beat Chadworth at home by 71 runs with Cam hitting 243-9 and Chadworth only able to garner 172-9 in reply.

Ryan Rice top scored for Cam with 71.
