CHIPPING Sodbury bounced back from a disappointing reverse the previous week with a nicely paced batting display to secure a four-wicket triumph away to Woodmancote in the West of England Premier League’s Gloucestershire division.

And other teams did well with some particularly good batting from fifth team heroes Callum Davidge and Ben Weaver.

The first team’s visitors, who lost the toss, were set a target of 244 with Phil Lill (3-59), Jamie Rendell (1-30), Jay Penfold (0-27) and Mason Poole (0-19) the pick of the attack.

Sodbury’s reply was then held together by Craig Scully who finished unbeaten on 88 as his side got over the line with almost four overs to spare, James Hicks weighing in with 45 while Lill (25) and Rendell (23) also made important contributions.

It was a great day too for Sodbury seconds who overcame Newent by 81 runs to stay second in division three of the Gloucestershire County League.

Openers Lee Walters (91) and Chris Young (73) enjoyed a stand of 183 while Matt Webb was unbeaten on 42 as Sodbury piled up a challenging total of 263-5.

The home side then made good progress with the ball thanks to Dan Brown (4-34), Rob Mozelewski (2-27, both from nine) and Jack Philpott (2-52) to wrap up a comfortable win.

Sodbury thirds, meanwhile, came off second best away to Bath in division seven of the Bristol and District League.

Tom Brown (47) and Rob Higgs (29) top scored in the visitors’ challenge of 196-9 but Bath comfortably chased down the target for the loss of two wickets.

Sodbury fourths, though, completed an excellent eight-run home win against local rivals Winterbounre in their Bristol and District League Division 11 clash.

Damian Frodsham led from the front with 58 while Jim Davis (24) also helped lift their side to a total of 193. And it proved to be just enough thanks to a disciplined bowling and fielding display.

A great day for the Sodbury club was completed by the fifths racing to a seven-wicket success away to St Mary Redcliffe in Division 16.

The home side were allowed to total 192-8 from their forty overs, despite the best efforts of Tony Garton (2-21) and Ben Weaver (2-19) while there was an excellent spell too from Callum Davidge (1-18, all from eight).

Matt Rossiter (45) then gave the Sodbury reply momentum before Davidge produced a career-best 72 and Weaver an imperious 48 with an unbroken stand of 74 for the fourth wicket to bring up the victory with almost nine overs to spare.
