CHIPPING Sodbury produced their best bowling and fielding displays for several seasons to secure a fine four-wicket home win against title-chasing Frocester seconds in the West of England Premier League Gloucestershire division.

Frocester, who won the toss, were dismissed for a below-par 156 thanks a superbly disciplined effort by the complete home attack led once more by captain Jamie Rendell (3-22 from six) with Jon Toghill claiming 3-30 from ten.

Mason Poole (1-28) bowled with pace and accuracy while Ben Waldron (0-35) and Phil Lill (2-40) also kept things tight, backed up by some tremendous catching and ground fielding.

Sodbury lost an early wicket in reply but chipped away at their target with James Hicks (35) and Dan Wright (27) top scoring.

Sodbury seconds suffered a 24-run setback away to Lechlade in Division Three of the Gloucestershire County League.

The home side were all out for 192, number nine Natividade Fernandes contributing a valuable 54 as Sam Vile, Jack Philpott and Rob Mozelewski all claimed two wickets apiece.

Bryan Jater, Sodbury’s captain for the day, led the visitors’ reply with a batting 71 but the innings tailed away.

Sodbury thirds though, emerged three-wicket victors against Bristol Asians in a Bristol and District Division Seven clash.

Neil Barrett finished with 4-24 to contain the Asians to 180, and Sodbury then completed a fine win thanks to the efforts of Ali Scott (57), Rob Higgs (31) and Jake Havard (28 not out).

It was a day to forget for Sodbury fourths who were humbled by ten wickets at Failand and Portbury in Division 11 after being skittled for 86, Matt Bethell top scoring on 27.

But Sodbury 5ths kept up their title challenge in Division 16 with a 107-run home triumph against Hallen.

Craig Hambly top scored with an unbeaten 81 while there were also useful contributions from Steve Hill (47) , James Millett (29) and Dave Honeybell (27) in a season’s highest total of 275-5.

Hallen, in reply, took advantage of an easy-paced and true batting surface to respond with 168-4, Brad Hughes (0-23 from eight) the pick of the Sodbury attack while there were also tight spells from Tony Garton (1-22), Nick Prior (0-27), Hambly (0-21) and Wade Campling (2-43).
