THE SCOTT Snowdon Trail Marathon is an event Thornbury Running Club’s Ros Rowland has been eagerly anticipating for some time.

The race starts and ends in Llanberis with the route circumnavigating then scaling Snowdon itself.

‘Approximately’ it is a marathon length of 26.2 miles and it also includes 1,685 metres of ascent.

On a hot July day, Rowland did well to finish 179th; second LV50 in just 32 seconds over six hours.

The annual Rockhampton Fun Run, held last Thursday was a good opportunity for the club to support a local cause and have a slight change of venue for their regular Thursday club run.

Rob Cowlard sped around the four mile course in a time of 23.19minutes to take first place well ahead of his closest rival.

Jim Godden also ran well in 25.49minutes, ahead of Steve Allen, 26.38minutes.

Judy Mills was second FV home in 35.34minutes.

Other Thornbury runners were Paul Clark (27.05minutes); Liam Jones (30.17minutes); (Chris Foley 32.57minutes); Hugh McPherson (33.37minutes); Malcolm Carr (35.39minutes); Janet Gaze (36.46minutes); David Flemington (37.24minutes); Karen Carr (37.50minutes); Cathy Watkins (41.13minutes).

Perhaps less competitive but in the true spirit of fun-run were Jo Williams, escorting young sons Ruben and Woody on their bicycles in 38.47minutes, and Jim Williams (no relation) running with daughter Imogen in 38.56minutes.

In the same vein, Paul Clark returned to encourage partner Sue (49.01minutes).

A number of Thornbury runners turned out at Chipping Sodbury parkrun on Saturday, with Andrew Darton having the best time of the day, fifth to finish in 18.22minutes.

Garry Slater also ran well; 19.38minutes, while Kevin Arnold continues to be another parkrun regular, 21.39minutes.

Hugh McPherson had a good run in 24.04minutes and it was good to see veterans Graham Bishop (37.00minutes) and wife Carole (36.54minutes).

Judy Mills was a first-timer at Graves, Sheffield parkrun where she attributed her time of 27.53minutes to the heat, a slow start and unfamiliarity with the course, as well as being just not as quick as she would have liked.
