Tytherington Rocks 1 Milton United 1

TYTHERINGTON Rocks kicked off their first Hellenic League game under the new management team of Dan Gillespie, coach Pat Hendzel, Physio Kim Stevens and pitch side assistant Mark Turl against former Premier side Milton United from Oxfordshire and finished with a very creditable draw.

The side that started was apart from one player completely changed from last season and performed for most of the game as though they had been together for a long time, with more players becoming available in the next few weeks they could in time form a very good side in the league.

The first half started with Milton doing the early attacking, however Rocks defense kept them at bay and the home keeper had very little to do, after the early rush from Milton the home side started to make inroads into the Milton defense and just before half time Rocks took the lead from a well worked move when Luke Whittam held the ball up on the right of the penalty box before he slotted into the six yard area where Lewis Bezer beat keeper Harry Whitehead with a low drive.

From the start of the second half Milton put continual pressure on the Rocks and in the 70th minute a tremendous drive brought off a superb save from home keeper Adam Clark, the defense held out well until the 75th minute when Daniele Piscopo received the ball inside the penalty box and took it forward unmarked to score from close in to equalize and give Milton a share of the points.

Rocks played well and their man of the match was captain and central defender Dan McNally, but this was a real team effort and all the players should feel very proud of their effort in their first game together.

Rocks play away to Shrivenham on Saturday 20th
