Undy AFC 6 Thornbury Town U18 0

THORNBURY Town’s Under-18 side started their pre-season with a trip over to Wales to play Undy AFC Under-18, who are based just west of Newport, and even though they were hit for six, there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

Thornbury conceded within the first minute but responded gallantly and thought they had drawn level when Felix Brittan headed in from a free-kick only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Undy piled on the pressure and only some resolute defending and good goalkeeping by Sam Blunden prevented the Welsh side from extending their lead.

Undy, however, were not to be denied and they doubled their lead just before the break.

And Thornbury were caught cold early in the second half when the hosts scored two goals in two minutes.

Thornbury, to their credit, continued to work hard and started to pass the ball around confidently.

However, just as they started to create some half chances, Undy grabbed another goal.

The final and best goal was scored ten minutes from the end with a first time shot from 25 yards out which saw the ball sail over the visiting keeper and into the top left corner.

It was a great game of football and a very useful workout for Thornbury to get rid of the ring rust.

Thorns were punished every time for their mistakes but there was plenty of good quality on show to give encouragement for the new season.

It was plain to see that Undy were playing their fifth pre season game and Thornbury their first.

Meanwhile, Thornbury Town’s Under-18 side are currently recruiting players for the upcoming season 2016/2017 They play in the Bristol/Glos Premier Division on Sunday afternoons.

Thornbury Town Under-18s also have a position available for coach/assistant manager.
