COTSWOLD Edge Golf Club’s NGFL team are celebrating promotion to the second division this week after winning 3.5-2.5 at home against Brickhampton and finishing second overall in division three behind Naunton Downs.

Visitor Andrew White was also celebrating following a hole in one on the 16th during the Men’s Invitation Day.

The pairs competition sees visitors and home players compete in a stableford format. Overall winners on the day were Barry Roberts and partner Peter Thompson from Thurlestone with 45 points whilst Steve Devaney won the Stokes Salver for the lowest gross with 74.

Results: Division 1: Rob Walker and Brian Pittaway (Stinchcombe) 44, Boyd Barrett and S Crooks (Ross on Wye) 43 and Tony Mansfield and Chris Gent (Long Ashton) 43.

Division 2: Barry Roberts and Peter Thompson (Thurlestone) 45, Kev Reeves and K Norman (Filton) 43; Barrie Humphries and D Fogg (Rodway Hill) 42.

The Ladies section also held their Invitation Day with 24 pairs from 12 clubs enjoying the sunshine, particularly Minchinhampton New ladies who featured in all the top prizes. Julie Paulett and guest Stella Knight from Minchinhampton New won with 40 points followed by Maureen Joy and Jane Vockins (Minchinhampton New) with 37 on count back from Sarah Tyler and Amanda Ransom (Minchinhampton New).

Bank Holiday Monday saw men and ladies compete in the Beverley Plate with some very good scores being returned in the stableford competition.

Alan Parnell won on count back from Sid Pratt both with forty points followed by Gill Polley 39. Rich Brock shot an impressive five under par nett 65 to win the Ellerncroft Trophy and was also rewarded with a two-shot handicap cut.

Results: Division 1: Dave Clutterbuck nett 68, Ross Casey 69 and Mark Harris 70; Division 2: Rich Brock 65, Pete Peachey and John Newns 67.

Division 3: Pete Greatbach 68, Barry Roberts 71 and Arthur Naylor 72.

Mel Lee and Tina Lewis continued their good form in the County Foursomes competition and go forward to the final which will be taking place on Sunday October 9.

They won at home 5&4 against Tracy Park to get there.
