DOWNEND and Frenchay Tennis Club (DFTC) have appointed a mother and son team to take on the new role of Tennis Club Co-ordinator and help shape the future of the growing club.

Josh Wraith, an 18-year-old Level Two coach at the club, and mum Sally, who is an administrator, put in separate applications for the job but after the interview stage, it was decided that combining their strengths in a job-share would be the best outcome for the club.

The Tennis Club Co-ordinator role will be a crucial part of the continuing modernisation of the club. Josh and Sally will help co-ordinate and expand the existing coaching and outreach programmes and will implement efficient administrative procedures to ensure the smooth running of the club.

Josh said: “I’m really delighted to be appointed to this role and keen to begin to shape the coaching programme and develop the outreach programme over the next 12 months.

“This is an exciting step for my career and I hope to begin to attract the next generation of players to the club.”

Julie Jones, Regional Tennis Participation Manager, said: “This appointments will transform the club and ensure that over the next 24 months club membership increases along with providing more free opportunities for people to try tennis and enrol on coaching programmes.”

The Tennis Club Co-ordinator role is just the latest in a string of developments at the club which has already undergone a massive transformation in its move from its old home of Fishponds in Bristol.
