MIKE Crompton put the disappointment of an event at Woodchester Park behind him to tackle the Cranham Beast.

And he certainly used the frustration to his advantage, attacking the challenging course and putting his competitors to the sword.

The extremely testing 17 mile course starts in Cranham Woods, dropping down to Sheepscombe, before the runners then ascend back up to Cranham Woods before traversing to Birdlip.

Another descent to Great Witcombe and then more climbing at the 12 mile mark with the runners ascending around Coopers Hill before the final effort is made to climb again to the finish back at Cranham.

Crompton averaged an improved 7:59 minutes pace, completing the course in two hours 16 minutes.

Brad Johnson had an interesting morning with a small navigational error and some dodging of errant horses to finish in around two hours 40mins as he took to enjoying the scenery.

At the Worcester 10K, three Dursley Running Club athletes crossed the finish line with Rach Goatman achieving both a 5K and 10K personal best and joined by Pete Dunn who achieved a PB at the race distances.

Tony Ball led the three home with an impressive run after his parkrun outing of the previous day.

At the Andover Food Bank Lakes 10K, Neil Hodgson ran a steady 37:28mins.

Results: Antony Ball, 694th , 00:51:15: Pete Dunn, 569th , 00:49:31, (PB); Rachael Goatman, 1675th , 01:02:51, (PB) DRC member Tara Truman travelled down to Tenby to take part in Ironman Wales.

She was out of the water in just over an hour in 14th position in the W40-44 category and 56th, woman.

After a long transition phase, she was then into the 112 mile cycle, that takes the riders over some very testing terrain.

Truman averaged an impressive 15.9 mph and was 13th in category.

It was then onto the marathon which she finished in just over five hours to record and overall time of 13hours 26:07mins, 13th in category and 66th woman overall an impressive effort on an extremely challenging course.

Dursley Running Club’s Handicap series took place last Tuesday. Nicki Cowle passed the 17 runners in front of her continued on to victory stopping her clock at 43:03mins.
