Cotswold Edge Golf Club news

IT was Finals Day last weekend at Cotswold Edge with men competing in 36 hole and ladies in 18 hole knock-out matches after having won through several rounds throughout the summer.

The windy conditions provided an extra challenge throughout the day. Ali Butcher continuing her good form this season to add two more trophies to her haul.

She won the Harris Cup 3&2 against Anne Crawley and the Merry Vase 4&3 against Lin Cocking. Steve Devaney won the Scratch Matchplay 5&4 against Simon Craker.

Gary Swift took the Tom Turley one up against Willie Cruickshank, and Kim Sharp won the Darville Plate 6&4 against Andy Cocking.

Julie Cruickshank won the Bronze Trophy 6&5 against Sue Reid, and Alison Ancrum took the Anna Blackler with a score of two up against Jean Strickland.

Captain Graham Woodlands won the Summer Mixed Knockout with partner Pat Waring 5&4 against John and Jane Barrett. All trophies are presented at Presentation Evening in November along with other trophy winners throughout the season. Senior captain Mike Ward and partner Bob Lawrence took the honours in the Wotton Probus Cup pairs stableford competition with a very impressive 45 points from Roger Johnson and Steve Leach 44 and John Newns and Pete Skinner 40. Elaine Wheeler returned a one over par nett 73 to win the Autumn Jug stroke play Trophy from Julie Cruickshank and June Hanson, both 75. The Ladies Alliance Two team travelled to Cirencester for a very close match and were narrowly defeated 8–6.
