WELSH region the Scarlets are keen to sign Gloucester back row Ross Moriarty.

And reports have linked Dursley’s Ben Morgan, who is out of contract at the end of the season, to a switch to either Leicester Tigers or Exeter Chiefs as one of three players – James Hook and Matt Kvesic being the others – who may be leaving Kingsholm.

Moriarty has blossomed at Kingsholm over the past few years after joining the Cherry and Whites in 2012. His links with Gloucester are through studying at Hartpury College.

But the 22-year-old, who has been capped nine times by Wales, has been eyed by the Scarlets. The Welsh region’s head coach Wayne Pivac told BBC Wales website: “He is a very fine young player. If he wanted to come to the Scarlets, I would be very keen to investigate that further.”

Gloucester director of rugby David Humphreys, however, is adamant Moriarty, who has been released from his club duties to play for Wales in their Autumn Test Series, is staying at Kingsholm for the foreseeable future as he has 18 months left on his contract.

Morgan’s future, meanwhile, has been a source of speculation for a while as one of a handful of big time stars whose contracts are up at the end of this campaign.

Gloucester have already confirmed that captain Greig Laidlaw is off to France to join Clermont Auvergne at the end of his current contract which ends in 2017.
