CITY got back to winning ways on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at Ashton Gate.

Prior to the game we’d gone the whole of November without winning a game so it was a great feeling to finally return three points and move back up into the top half of the Championship table.

Johnson again rung the changes from the previous game against Reading with five players coming in to the starting 11 and also a change in formation.

A few supporters have been calling for Abraham to get a partner up front and Johnson paired the Chelsea loanee with big Wilbraham who scored City’s last winning goal against Blackburn back in October.

Under Johnson City generally play expansive football but it was noticeable on Saturday that we looked a lot more solid, it appeared Johnson’s message to his charges was ‘back to basics’.

It helped that, for a change, we scored the opening goal. On the half hour mark Abraham was taken out by onrushing Ipswich ‘keeper Bialkowski and Tomlin drilled home the resultant penalty.

City looked the stronger team for most of the second half and in truth the visitors were disappointing.

The game was settled on 72 minutes by a quite brilliant strike from City midfielder Freeman. As Ipswich cleared their lines the ball fell to Freeman who smashed a beautifully cultured left footed volley past a motionless Bialkowski.

City travel to Huddersfield Town on Saturday (3pm). The Terriers were in fine form at the beginning of the season and were top of the table for some time.

But they’ve struggled in recent weeks having won only once in their last eight outings and so we can go there with a degree of confidence following our win over Ipswich.

Brentford are then the visitors to Ashton Gate next Tuesday (7.45pm) and The Bees have been on a similarly bad run themselves having lost their last four

games. If we could pick up a win and a draw from these two games then I’d be delighted.
