DAN Tuohy has penned a deal with Bristol Rugby to make the switch to the Aviva Premiership with immediate effect.

The lock – who arrives from Ulster – has eleven international caps for Ireland, touching down on his test debut versus New Zealand in 2010.

Bristol-born and a product of Weston-Super-Mare RFC, Tuohy made 136 appearances for Ulster, since joining the PRO12 outfit in 2009.

“We’re pleased to welcome Dan into the fold – he’s a formidable presence in the second row and an experienced lineout operator,” Acting Head Coach Mark Tainton told bristolrugby.co.uk.

“I know Dan well from his time in the Ireland international set-up. His knowledge of the game at the highest level, as well as his leadership skills, will be of significant benefit to the team.”

Tuohy added: “When speaking to Mark [Tainton] it was clear to see the vision he had for the club, I'm very excited to have the opportunity to add something to the group.

“Being born in Bristol, and having played for Weston-Super-Mare, Gloucester and Exeter, I know what Bristol Rugby is all about and what it means to the passionate supporters.

“I want to thank Ulster Rugby and the IRFU for the past seven and a half years and wish them the very best in the future. My attention now turns to helping Bristol retain their place in the Premiership.”
