IT is never too late for the hardy souls of golfing’s community to get their clubs out and have a swing.
It may be December and nearly Christmas but the members of Thornbury Golf Club were treated to some late 2016 action last weekend when the skippers of their teams took to the tees for one of the final times before the turn of the year.
That is because Thornbury Golf Club held their annual captains drive-in on Saturday. And, despite a bit of cold, the weather perked up by the time the skippers took out their club and ball to swing a drive down the fairway.
The conditions were fair and there was no wind to worry them.
So, Kate Williams, the incoming Ladies’ team captain sent her shot 148 yards down the fairway, while incoming Mens captain Tom Crocker drove 203 yards.
And youngster Alex Bell, who is taking charge of the juniors as their captain next season, was only five yards behind the senior pair with a very creditable 198 yards.
