GLOUCESTERSHIRE stars Michael Klinger and Andrew Tye have helped Perth Scorchers to the top of the Big Bash League.

The Scorchers beat Sydney Thunder on Bank Holiday Monday with a dominant victory with Klinger at the centre of a recovery after the Scorchers struggled early on.

Thunder captain Shane Watson won the toss and elected to bowl, with the decision initially appearing a good one with the loss of Shaun Marsh out for four, However, steadfast import Ian Bell (45) combined with Klinger (38 runs from 32 balls) to rebuild their side's innings with an 85-run partnership.

It set the stage for Player of the Match Mitch Marsh to blaze an unbeaten 44, with three sixes, to help compile a challenging total of 177-4.

Tye then chipped in with a wicket in the Thunder reply which ended with them getting 127-8 as the Scorchers took the Big Bash League lead.

Klinger, who starred for Gloucestershire with the bat last season, has said he is not going to return for a full season this summer but may play in the T20 Blast competition.

Tye, meanwhile, is going to be with the county when the season resumes in April.
