THORNBURY A suffered their second defeat in as many games going down to last year’s league winners Vivo 1.
However there were signs of improvement from last week with Alex McMillan taking a game from his match in losing 3-1 and Mark Toseland coming through a hard fought match to win 3-2. Captain Brad Jenkins also won his match 3-2 after coming from behind, however both Callum Davidson and Ryan Wilson lost out 3-0 meaning Vivo took the tie three matches to two.
A tough start to the season so far for Thornbury A but plenty of time to find some form.
Thornbury B team had another tough match against Westbury David Lloyd A with 2 B team players pulled up to support the A team.
Calum Davies-Smith playing his first match in a while brushed his opponent aside with a good 3-0 win.
Chris Hutchence dug deep and switched a 2-0 down position to get back to 2-2 but ultimately lost 3-2. Viv Bailey-Gard put in his best performance to date against a strong experienced opponent and narrowly lost 3-1.
Cliff Hall had a great first game but his opponent stepped it up and won the match 3-0.
Finally Justin Edwards was on and dominated the first game, had his chances in the second but ultimately lost the match 3-1. Thornbury D picked up the club’s first win of the season with a three matches to two victory at local rivals Yate. Colin Preece provided the team with a great start taking his match 3-0 against a higher ranked opponent, Colin playing a variety of boasts, drops and lobs surprised the gallery with the ease of his victory. Nick Clifton coasted to a 3-0 win, however Pete Bowen lost out to the same scoreline. Mark Dalziel battled back well from going 1-0 down to take his match 3-1 and ensure the overall win for the team. Ian Johnson looked like providing the icing on the cake as he took a rapid 1-0 lead with a 9-0 score, however his hard hitting opponent moved through the gears to take a 3-1 win. An important 14-7 points result in what looks like being a tight division.
Thornbury E suffered another big loss with only James Jenkins managing a gutsy 3-2 win. Matt Brown and Graham Dono picked up a point in 3-1 losses but Nigel Ball and Bill Ellis were both comfortably beaten 3-0.
