The Marches Two League

Wotton-under-Edge 4ths (C) 3 Lansdown C 2

WOTTON-under-Edge fourths made hard work of the first half, and only started to believe in simple play after some amazing hard work by the defensive wall of Brian Patterson, Nick Watt, Andrew Wallace, and Martin Dove, with Lansdown only coming away with a single goal for their efforts.

Initially lacking some confidence and space in front of the opposition’s goal, breakthrough came with a well worked short corner, with David Chevin hitting the backboard.

Strength came with a demand for focus and belief at half time, and a call for strong and steady defence by the midfield.

An impressive work rate by Stuart Jones, Max Woodman and Dominic Barton kept securing great ball on the right and, backed up by Andrew Wallace at right back, pushed the opposition back with waves of blue attacks.

The second goal came from a series of passes into the D, with Chevin on the end of fine interplay passes from James Cox.

With a narrow lead, Lansdown stepped up the pressure to try and break through.

Despite exceptional defence, they took the score back to 2-2, with 15 minutes left on the clock.

All through this period, Dan Dyson worked relentlessly in goal, driving balls away, and holding hard strikes away with his purposeful movement around the circle.

Wotton bounced back and started to look dangerous in midfield, with the tireless engine of Rich Watts providing great ball pace and good distribution.

After hard work to defend against speculative attacks down the right, Wotton took a series of balls into the Lansdown 23, with Lansdown working to try and rebuff the ferocious attacks.

A pass connected with Chevin’s stick, and slid beautifully into the backboard for the winning goal.
